Piedmont Parkway
Completion Tops Sharpe Bros. Projects
(1st
/ 2nd Quarter 2007)
Sharpe
Bros. has successfully completed several substantial
projects in the cities of High Point and Greensboro, NC, with a
number of other sizable projects still in the works. In High
Point, the division crowned a $5.2 million Piedmont Parkway
project with a six-month-early completion. Begun in October
2005, the project included grading, paving and utility work on a
mile-long extension of the parkway. The road opened to traffic
in December 2006.

Also in High Point, Sharpe Bros. is providing paving services
for the city’s annual resurfacing contract. Work began in the
middle of last year and will continue through the rest of this
year. The division expects the volume of work to increase,
raising the $1.5 million original contract to over $2 million in
value.
In Greensboro, the division has started a $3.5 million job for
the NCDOT. The crew is widening Hilltop Road to four lanes and
adding curb, gutter and some sidewalks. The project is scheduled
for completion in mid-2008.
Also in Greensboro, Sharpe Bros. recently finished a $2.5
million contract to improve a mile-long section of Franklin
Boulevard. In addition to widening the roadway from two to three
lanes, the project team added sidewalk to both sides of the
road. Despite the challenges of working around the existing
storm sewers and utilities in a residential area, the team
maintained its high quality standard and completed the job on
time.
Sharpe Bros. is also busy with private-sector work for area
developers. Crews widened a road and paved the parking lots for
the new Battleground North shopping center in Greensboro. Other
projects include paving, curb and gutter work for local schools,
a Centex Homes subdivision and a Kavanagh Homes development.
Management is looking forward to continued growth in the area’s
retail and commercial markets.
