Sharpe Bros. Reaches
Safety Milestone
(3rd Quarter 2007)
Working
safely is of vital importance when your business involves heavy
equipment, underground work, asphalt paving and more. The
challenge becomes even greater when your business is growing and
adding new employees and projects to the mix.

Sharpe
Bros. has met this safety challenge
head-on, and recently celebrated an entire year with no
lost-time accidents. This is no small feat considering the
division has grown to nearly 100 employees since its acquisition
by Vecellio & Grogan in mid-2006.
The milestone marks the continued evolution of Sharpe Bros. It
also stands as a testament to
Vecellio & Grogan's
established safety procedures and success with consistently
applying safety training across divisions.
One measure Sharpe Bros. has adopted is the weekly toolbox
meeting, where foremen assemble their employees and discuss
corporate news, problems on the job, and issues of safety. It
has proven to be an excellent forum for highlighting issues that
might not otherwise be addressed by everyone. All employees were
also given a Vecellio & Grogan safety manual, just to ensure
that safety procedures were kept standard across divisions.
Employees at Sharpe—as well as all divisions—are also undergoing
defensive driving training using the Smith System. The four-hour
course gets employees behind the wheel to practice tips and
tricks in defensive driving.
Working safely is certainly nothing new to Sharpe Bros.
employees; it is the goal of each person every single day. But
for even the most seasoned crew member, participating in
regular, structured safety training is always beneficial—as
evidenced by the recent milestone reached at Sharpe Bros.
